Thank you for voicing ways to better serve Thomaston Upson recycling needs.
Greensun met with Kyle Hood, Upson County Manager, today. We were encouraged to hear the county shares our position and made the decision not to automatically renew the waste services contract. At our last meeting with Mr. Hood, we saw this contract and asked that in the future recycling be considered as an option at least for county residents. Mr. Hood stated the Upson County, Georgia waste services contract will go up for bid shortly.

At a recent Thomaston-Upson County Rotary Meeting, Patti Robinson and son, Frank Mason Robinson, spoke to the civic group on the importance of bringing recycling to Thomaston.
Patti reported that the effort to push recycling in all Georgia communities falls under the state umbrella of “Beautification” in Governor Sonny Perdue’s Conserve Georgia plan.
The Governor’s “Georgia Recycles”program offers state grants and initiatives to local governments who are willing to make a serious commitment to recycling and conservation.
Large Georgia industry such as Coke and Home Depot are involved as strong proponents of this movement.
Communities throughout Georgia including Griffin and Barnesville are getting in at the ground level and reaping the benefits of support from the Governor’s office.
“As a part of the whole state-wide effort, we need to get in to the stream to get the goodies before they are all given away,” Patti said of the state initiatives.
Frank Mason’s company, Greensun, offers recycling options for locals interesting in residential conservation efforts.
A curbside service, Greensun supplies collection bags for “single-stream” recycling and home pick up service for a nominal monthly fee. Greensun proceeds are donated to the Gilmore Center.
Barnesville City Manager, Kenny Roberts, and Lamar County made the commitment to Go Green and instigated a mandated recycling program.
Griffin offers a progressive conservation plan. Pratt Industries Recycling (out of Atlanta) has established a large four quadrant recycling hub site in Griffin.
Pratt offers an additional option to residential recycling for surrounding communities.
Pratt has offered Thomaston 100 of their red bins for local businesses, reducing regular garbage by as much as half.
This offer includes pickup and free bins for all schools in the county. For more information, go to: greensunrecycling.com.
